Like many other fad diets, there are pros and cons side of this popular diet plan. It is always a good practice to go into details of the advantages and disadvantages of a diet before you decide to start. Listed below are the points as summarized by us for your reference.

Cabbage Soup Diet Advantages:

Probably quite good as a short term break from the average junk-food diet. In addition, home-made soup is a good weight loss food - although any vegetable soup will do - and is reasonably filling. Little cooking is required.

The diet only last for 7 days. Cabbage soup diet is easy to follow; it requires little reading, no studying, and very little preparation.

Cabbage is a good source of fiber and vitamin C, also rich in folate and vitamin A. Cabbage is good for fighting against Cancer. The I3C found in cabbages can help to prevent breast cancer.

Cabbage Soup Diet Disadvantages:

Okay if you want a 7-day break from junk food, or if you have only a little weight to lose. But be aware than it is not nutritionally based and should not be followed long-term. Also, after 7 days of vegetable soup you may never want to eat another vegetable again!

Despite claims to the contrary, cabbage does not possess any 'fat-burning' properties. The reason the Cabbage Soup Diet causes weight loss is because it provides no more than about 800-900 calories a day.

The cabbage soup diet does work, but the results are very short term. You can get too much sodium from the combination of soup mix, bouillon and juice.

Due to the restricted amount of calories, you may feel low energy levels throughout the diet. The diet allows only drinks such as water or unsweetened juices, curbing your cravings for alcohol, sodas and milky drinks may be difficult.

This diet could aggravate many health conditions, for example, people with diabetes could have problems maintaining their blood glucose level.

Some people report dizziness, weakness and inability to concentrate.

Short duration and restricted foods give little chance to change your eating habits long term. Weight probably will not stay off. The sheer volume of cabbage soup can produce excessive flatulence.
